▶ Title: Topics Recently Concerned in the Field of Back-End Nuclear Fuel Cycle

▶ Abstract:

For the safe disposal of high-level radioactive waste and the efficient decommissioning of nuclear facilities, a reliable environmental impact assessment is imperatively needed to be performed. In general, the uncertainties in environmental impact assessment or safety assessment are mostly influenced by various input parameters, with a notable impact attributed to fundamental chemical thermodynamic data predicting the migration and retardation behaviors of radioactive nuclides, such as solubility and distribution coefficients.

The distribution coefficients are thermodynamic variables that exhibit remarkable sensitivity to various environmental conditions. While experimental verification of these coefficients is assessed to be readily achievable, predicting data for unforeseen conditions with various pH, ionic strength, mineral composition, etc., presents significant challenges. This seminar focuses on discussing strategies to overcome these limitations and, simultaneously, introduces several key topics recently discussed from the perspective of the back-end of the nuclear fuel cycle.
