▶ Title:
For understanding Future Strategic Industries, Upstream Value Chain of Uranium
▶ Abstract:
Industry 4.0 means to combine the conventional industries with ICT technology. Several advanced countries had already made the new policies on Industry 4.0. According to new polices, they had chosen their future strategic industries for sustainable growth. For example, new-energy vehicle as like electric car, smart electricity, robot automation, AI, and so on. Korean Government made various policies or plans on Industry 4.0, too, and have chosen seven future strategic industries; car industry(electric/hydrogen/self-driving), new energy(solar/wind/ESS), Electricity and electronics, smart factory, aviation, batteries, advanced new material. However, there is no way in the policies how to provide or supply energy for the new industries.

Even though nuclear power plant in Korea supply around 35% among total power generation, nothing is any kinds of supply sources. Considering nuclear fuel cycle, the efficiency or productivity of each step can be improved by the development of technology except providing raw materials. Korea does not have any kinds of commercial uranium mines depends on its characteristic geology. It can be solved various risks on nuclear fuel cycle through R&D studies, but it cannot to secure the stable supply source by any technologies. To secure stable supply chains, it has to purchase uranium or to get mine production in overseas countries. If the variant of price is considered, it is the best way to purchase in market and to deliver owned mines together. It needs to understanding upstream, that is mining industry which can provide raw fuel material, yellow cake, for your study advanced nuclear energy.
