▣ Title : Introduction to Superconducting RF Cavities and Recent Developments

▣ Speaker : Dr. Yoo-Lim, Cheon(Institute for Rare Isotope Science)

▣ Date & Time : 2026. 10. 15(Thu) 16:30~17:30

▣ Venue : Research Bldg I, #310

▣ Language : English

▣ Abstract :

Superconducting radio-frequency (SRF) technology is an essential component for modern SRF particle accelerators, enabling efficient and stable operation of high-power and high-intensity continuous-wave (CW) beams.

SRF cavities operate at cryogenic temperatures (4K, 2K) exhibiting significantly lower surface resistance compared to normal-conducting cavities.

This seminar introduces key aspects of superconducting cavity development, including fundamental RF parameters, electromagnetic characteristics, and surface treatment techniques that determine cavity performance.

An overview of the major components of an SRF accelerator system, including superconducting cavities, RF power couplers, cryomodules, and frequency tuners, will also be presented. In addition, recent research and

development activities at the RAON heavy-ion accelerator facility in Daejeon will be introduced, together with selected developments and technological trends from major accelerator laboratories worldwide.
