▶ Title: A 3D numerical simulation for low-gain population inversion X-ray laser oscillator
An X-Ray Laser Oscillator (XLO) was proposed to generate intense, coherent X-rays, in which an atomic gain medium is pumped by an X-ray free-electron laser (FEL). Since the gain in the proposed XLO is high, it is an alternative to an X-ray regenerative amplifier FEL. We explore the feasibility of an XLO in the low-gain regime as an alternative to the X-ray FEL oscillator. We have developed a 3D code for simulating the XLO, based on 3D rate equations derived explicitly from 3D quantum Hamiltonian. Numerical simulations using this code show that an XLO in the low gain regime is feasible with reduced requirements on the SASE pump power as compared to the high gain case. We also show that the 3D effect is also significant for the high-gain regime due to the non-linearity in gain.
