"The Eddy-Lea Energy Alliance has selected French firm AREVA to help create an above-ground interim storage facility to store nuclear fuel on 1,000 acres between Carlsbad and Hobbs

The DOE hasn't yet decided whether to dispose or recycle spent nuclear fuel, but the agency eventually wants two or three storage facilities around the nation, Volpato said, adding that it makes sense to expand upon the work that started here with the Waste Isolation Treatment Plant. The news release noted that Southeastern New Mexico is ideal for nuclear fuel storage, particularly because of the community's warm reception of WIPP."

아레바는 지속 가능하고 안전한 핵연료 관리 전략을 수립하는 방안을 지원할 것이며, 현재와 미래의 사용후핵연료 관리는 중앙 집중 임시 처분장, 재처리 및 완전 처분을 포함한 통합적인 접근이 요구된다고 말했다."
